Birds of a Feather

Time Slot
Sat 3:30pm to 4:30pm (10/12/24)
Room
MGH Commons

Birds of a Feather sessions are informal, small-group discussions where you will collaborate to solve problems, exchange information, share best practices, and build your network. Unlike normal sessions, BoFs are not typically led by a speaker or panel. They are more of an open discussion among participants. BoF sessions can cover a wide range of topics related to Drupal, including technical issues, business challenges, community initiatives, and more.

Have a Birds of a Feather topic you'd like to host at the Summit?

Submit your topic now!

Submissions will be accepted until October 10 and posted here and at the Summit. Attendees will have the opportunity to review topics and self-organize into breakout groups for collaboration and discussion.

Proposed BoF Topics

Topic Proposed by Description
Professional development Heather Wozniak How can you work on yourself while working your job? How can you make yourself more attractive to potential employers and clients?
Modern PHP, Best Practices, Tips, etc. Eric Wheeler General talk about modern PHP. Setups, best practices, where everyone else is. What else can we do as a community to bring sites up to supported versions without simply adding a constraint to a composer file.
Funding Module Ryan Price GitHub has their Funding.yml file, composer and npm can tell you about projects seeking funding - why not be able to surface that data on Drupal.org? This is the idea behind the Funding module. We are proposing to use OpenCollective, Patreon, PayPal, and other fundraising sites to put buttons on D.o project pages. In a perfect world, there would be a way to add this info to the Project Browser. This all depends on D.o getting off of Drupal 7, but we can dream...
Drupal front end builders Alejandro Cruz Lopez As someone who started as a Wordpress developer, it was surprising to see Drupal not having a clear drag and drop builder, or at least to the level of WordPress options. What’s your opinion on why this is?

Is it more that open source projects aren’t investing the time to build this out or is it a technical limitation ?
DrupalCamp Sustainability Norah Medlin Let's retro about DrupalCamps and see if we can collaborate on ways to keep them coming back each year stronger than the previous. Anything from preventing organizer burnout, increasing sponsorships and attendance, attracting newcomers, and/or prepping for the post-starshot era.
Mapping, Geofields, Geolocation, and Reverse Geocoding in Drupal 10+ Kelly Lotts What are the available modules and best combinations of modules for georeferenced data in Drupal 10 and 11? Let's talk about strategies and real use cases.
Drupal CMS/Starshot Trial Heather Wozniak Have you tried out the prototype of Drupal CMS? It's available now. Let's try it out together to see what the installer experience is like and what it includes. There may be modules or UX patterns that you can start using now, even if you don't plan to use Drupal CMS.
